GLUT4 is a glucose transporter. Not a receptor.

It waits inside muscle cells in small storage vesicles. Muscle contraction pulls it to the cell surface — without insulin.

  2. Ca²⁺ release. Calcium floods the fibre from the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
  3. CaMKII signalling, alongside other contraction signals, mobilises the GLUT4 storage vesicles.

  5. Uptake. Glucose enters the muscle fibre. No insulin required.
